My Momma

Last night I received a call from my nephew Jon telling me he and his family were headed over to my moms(his Grandma)to watch the Red Sox/Rays baseball game. I was extremely tired from working all day at the High school repairing the pitchers mound, that I passed on the invitation. Then the "when God speaks" comes bouncing in my brain, heart, everywhere.

My mom recently moved back to San Diego, thanks to Jon buying her a beautiful home in the private, secluded are of Monarch Ridge located in Rancho San Diego. Knowing that she turns 83 this November, I need to spend more time with her.

One of my other nephews, David, showed up with his family. What a fun night, with Filippi's pizza to top it off.

My kids love that Grandma is back after (7) years living in the high desert town, Apple Valley.

I love this quote from David Lee Roth, "Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a yacht big enough to pull up right alongside it." So true! Thanks Jon

Seven New York City bartenders were asked if they could 'nail' a woman's personality based on what she drinks. Though interviewed separately, they concurred on almost all counts. The results:

PART A: WOMEN-DRINKS, WHO THEY ARE, & YOU!

Drink: Beer
Personality: Causal, low-maintenance; down to earth.
Your Approach: Challenge her to a game of pool.

Drink: Blender Drinks
Personality: Flaky, whiny, annoying; a pain in the ass.
Your Approach: Avoid her, unless you want to be her cabana boy.

Drink: Mixed Drinks
Personality: Older, more refined, high maintenance has very picky taste; knows EXACTLY what she wants.
Your Approach: You won't have to approach her. If she's interested, she'll send YOU a drink..................

Drink: Wine (does not include White Zinfandel)
Personality: Conservative and classy; sophisticated yet giggles.
Your Approach: Tell her you love to travel and spend quiet evenings with my friends.

Drink: White Zinfandel
Personality: Easy; thinks she is classy and sophisticated, actually, she has NO clue.
Your Approach: Make her feel smarter than she is...this should be an easy target.

Personality: Likes to hang with pals and looking to get totally drunk... and naked.

THEN, there is the MALE addendum -- The deal with guys is, as always, very simple and clear cut:

Wine: He is hoping that the wine will give him a sophisticated image to help him get laid.

I love this song. I was looking on playlist.com for different Rod Stewart songs to download. I probably have 80% of his music on disk but have been too lazy to burn it to my hard drives. So bingo, I was all smiles when this old gem showed up.

Longhorns in Cooperstown

August 22nd thru the 29th our Longhorns travel team competed in Cooperstown New York for Championship Week of the American Youth Invitational 2008 season. For Christopher this was his 2nd time this summer traveling there to compete. How many kids get to do that and miss a week of school? Let alone ever get to attend such a event. What a blessing.

This time around for me was a little different. I, along with our Head Coach were in charge of 14 kids in a camp setting for seven days. I laughed most of the time as the players ages 12-13 are just learning about themselves. Our sleeping quarters consisted of 8 bunk beds in a 25 x 30 room with no air conditioning. We bought portable fans from the local Walmart to use during the days but a few nights the lows reached in the mid 40's which caused all of us to find our blankets.

We placed 17th out of 98 teams. Not too bad. Chris ended up hitting seven home runs in nine games, one a Grand Slam walk off. I'm a proud dad!

Yet another battle with the scope.

I think 5 is the number that's gonna work. Well, I take that back. It's been 3 weeks since I started this post and my knee is so so. I had my 5th scope on my left knee August 1st. I was blessed to have one of the Padres surgeons perform the surgery. They found an existing Lateral Meniscus tear along with the clean up they planned to do. My MRI's had not disclosed a tear but I knew here was something wrong in that area of my knee. At least the doctor mentioned I have options if I have future problems, instead of knee replacement. I'm not a young buck by any means, so this effort to have a semi normal knee is going to take some work. Depressing and at the same time hope. Pretty much my life for the last few years.
